Now that spring has sprung, we’re all excited to buy new seasonal clothes to update our wardrobes… but wait! Have you organized your closet yet?! Organizing your clothes and cleaning out your closet are important to see what items you have already, what you don’t have, and what you don’t want anymore. I have plenty of closet organization ideas for you ladies! So today I’m sharing how to keep your closet clean and organized.
Closet Organizing Ideas
It’s easy to feel like you don’t have enough closet space when all your clothes are cluttered. A great idea is to start with decluttering! My favorite way to go about this is to get boxes and toss items into 3 categories: Keep, Toss/ Donate, or Undecided. With your undecided items, ask yourself if you’ve worn them at all in the last year. If the answer is no, I’d toss/donate them to make space for new items! Then, when you’re left with all of your “keeps”, use a closet system to create more storage space.
Closet Organizer Kit
This closet system from Bed Bath & Beyond is a game changer! It has space for hanging clothes on rods and shelf space for folding clothes and placing bags on. The bottom space is perfect as a shoe rack and it even has a shelf up top for extra bins and more storage. You can click here to shop!
Storage Bins
How cute are these rattan honey bins from The Container Store?! These are perfect for the top shelf of your closet organizer or even in your linen closet. They come in 3 different sizes, they have open handles for carrying, and they’re stackable!
Closet Hooks
Walmart is one of my favorite places to shop for simple home necessities! These closet hooks are super easy to use and make a huge difference. By the way, they’re drilling-free! All you need to do is slide them over a cabinet or storage shelf. You can use them to better organize your belts, scarves, and crossbody bags!
Tips on How to Stay Organized
So you decluttered, assembled your closet organizer, got your storage bins, and used your closet hooks for extra hanging items…now how do you organize it and keep it that way?! I got you covered!
- Group items together. I like to organize my closet by type of clothing. A good place to start is with jackets, long sleeve shirts, tees, tanks, then dresses.
- Organize by colors. I like to go from dark to light! Start with darker, heavier fall jackets to lighter summer night jackets and go from dark to light colors for all the other types of clothing.
- Put the same types of shoes together. I like to put all of my heels together, then my flats, sneakers, etc… (you can also organize these by color for a cleaner look!)
Extra tips:
-Try to leave space between clothing on hangers so you can clearly see each item.
-Use all of the same hangers for conformity.
-Fold bulky sweaters instead of hanging them to leave sliding room on the rods.
-Fold pants and leggings that don’t need to be hung to leave room to hang your skirts!
-Put everything back where it belongs as soon as you can. Leaving them around the room to put back at a later time usually results in a bunch of stuff piling up!
