This week I did a poll on Instagram Stories asking your least favorite fashion trends! Among the replies were Juicy Jumpsuits, Overalls, Chunky Dad Sneakers, and of course, Golden Goose Sneakers. Today I’m sharing my personal opinion on the very expensive sneakers, and giving you my two cents on whether or not they are worth the money! Plus, be sure to read to the end, I’ll be sharing some more affordable options, as well.
My Initial Thoughts on Golden Goose Sneakers
When I first saw Golden Goose sneakers, I won’t lie, I was CONFUSED. Why the F were these dirty looking sneakers $500 or more? I couldn’t understand it. Plus a little story, I once lusted over Christian Louboutin red bottom heels, and saved up $700 to buy them. Only to wear them twice, get insane blisters, and sell them on Poshmark because they were NOT worth the money!
Ever since my little $700 waste of a splurge (I think I sold them for $500 so I lost money in that transaction), I have been very anti over-spending money on shoes. Trust me, I’ve splurged on shoes like Stuart Weitzman or Aquazzura, and I rarely wear what I buy! I get nervous I’ll ruin them, or they’ll be uncomfortable.
After I got over the fact that Golden Goose Sneakers were insanely expensive, I started seeing EVERYONE wear them. But there was a clear divide. People hated them or loved them! I think the hate generally was over sticker shock, and I was one of those people!
Post Sticker Shock Thoughts
Once I got over my sticker shock, I asked a few of my girlfriends what they loved about their Golden Goose sneakers. Every single one of them said the same things:
- They are insanely comfortable
- They wear well
- Since they already look worn, they don’t worry about them getting dirty
I could 100% relate to these! My favorite sneakers are my Reebok Classic Lace Up Joggers, but they get dirty in a hot second! I have to clean them monthly, or they won’t last.
Once I started to listen to their points on why Golden Goose Sneakers were worth it to them, I started to second guess my initial disgust in overpriced sneakers. I wear sneakers at least four days a week, I have insanely sensitive feet (I get blisters easily), and I was over cleaning my white sneakers! Clearly I became interested in making a purchase.
But The Sticker Shock Still Got Me!
Despite me understanding why my girlfriends raved about these shoes, I still couldn’t get over the fact that they cost over $500. I’m totally ok with saving money for a designer bag (check out the Shopbop Archive collection!), because I know I’ll use it for years, but shoes I’m not as excited to save for.
I decided that the only way I would get a pair of these coveted Golden Goose Sneakers, was with a gift card!
And Then I Got A Pair
Last year I ended up having enough money on a gift card to purchase my first pair of Golden Goose Sneakers! I spotted the cutest white and tie dye pair (YUP, I went for it!), I went with a 37 (I’m a 6.5), and highly anticipated the arrival of these fancy sneakers.
Once they arrived, they were basically everything I expected!
- They fit extremely well
- A liner sock was all I needed for comfort
- They were actually way cuter in person than I thought
- They matched a ton of my casual clothes
I was surprised that they’re made in Italy, I thought that was cool, considering how much money they are! Also, since they’re leather, they had a squeak for the first few wears, which I won’t lie, drove me nuts! Once I broke them in the squeak went away, though.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, I love my Golden Goose Sneakers! I still haven’t splurged with my own money outside of a gift card, because I personally can’t justify a $500+ sneaker purchase. If you are a sneaker person, and don’t mind splurging, then YES I highly recommend them!
I style them with my casual Levi’s jeans, dress down my ASTR Dresses, and even wear them with my Spanx leggings!
If you are more like me, and would rather spend gift card money on them, and save your cash for other items, then below are some more affordable options!
