This past weekend, I attended a wedding for an old friend and his beautiful new wife! The setting was stunning with the Superstition Mountains in the background, and love was totally in the air.
Before this gorgeous celebration, not photographed: the hours of prep! Every girl wants to feel special when attending a wedding. I, for one, am always thinking about the details. It can be overwhelming!
There’s hair, makeup, deciding what you are going to wear, etc. I always feel like there’s so much to do, but it should be more simple, right? Getting ready for this wedding was easy, because I simplified the process ahead of time.
Here are some tips and tricks that I use when getting wedding guest ready.
Check out my Get Ready With Me Video HERE!
Tip 1: Read the Invitation
This tip sounds so silly, but I promise you, it will save you time and energy.
Things to look out for:
- Wedding Attire
- If the attire is not listed on the invite, check the wedding website
- 99% of brides are on theknot.com, so even if you don’t see the wedding website listed on the invite, it’s probably on the knot
- If the attire is not listed on the invite, check the wedding website
- Date
- Season is vital! If the wedding is outside, you’ll want to be sure you aren’t under dressed
- Time
- Brunch weddings are actually a thing
- Be sure you know exactly how much time you have to get ready, too!
Tip 2: Outfits!
The first thing I do after reading the invitation, is begin to plan my outfit.
If the attire is black tie, I’m out finding a gown ASAP! If it’s cocktail attire, there’s alot more flexibility. You can pick a short or long dress, and either is totally appropriate.
The wedding we just attended actually didn’t list an attire, so I wanted to get something in between cocktail and black tie.
I know myself, and I hardly re-wear dresses, especially if I’ve worn one to a formal event. With that said, spending a ton of money on a dress is totally unnecessary for me. Some of the sites I love to check out are SheIn.com, Revolve, Nordstrom Rack, and Lulus. This time around, Boohoo.com had this incredible black off shoulder maxi, and I had to have it!
The shoes I already owned, and am so obsessed with them! They are Schutz, which is a Brazilian shoe brand that is insanely comfortable. I actually purchased my wedding shoes from them! If you haven’t tried them, check their products out at Saks or Schutz website. They also have a store in NYC, if you’re ever there!
Tip 3: Makeup & Hair
I created a full Getting Ready With Me video from this look HERE. You can see exactly how I achieved this makeup look. Try to plan your makeup look to coordinate with your outfit.
I knew my dress was pretty sexy, so I didn’t want to overdo it with a heavy smokey eye.

For hair, I wanted to go super simple. At first, I thought half up would be perfect, but after messing with it, I realized down was perfect…. and it worked! Sometimes, simple is everything.
Tip 4: Don’t Forget Your Man!!
If you’re tied up, be sure to prep your man’s outfit! I can’t tell you how many weddings we’ve had to last minute get his suit dry cleaned. Don’t waste time stressing the day before or of a wedding to get your man’s outfit together. The week before, check out his outfit situation, and be sure he has a clean suit or tux, and a matching tie. After all, you want him to look good next to you, right!?
I hope this guide gives you some helpful pointers into being a flawless (relaxed) wedding guest and getting wedding guest ready! If you have any additional tips and tricks, please leave me a comment below. Love learning from my peers. <3
