As you all know, I’m a HUGE coffee lover…I love getting Starbucks, but hate the extra calories in their sugary drinks! I always have a sweet tooth so I started searching for healthier coffee options that help fulfill my sweet tooth, without adding excessive calories. With summer coming up, I’ve opted for healthier options when I get my weekly Starbucks fix. Today I’m sharing 3 healthy Starbucks coffee drinks!
Tips To Make Your Coffee Order Healthier
There are so many ways to cut down calories when ordering your favorite Starbucks drinks! Here are a few quick tips:
- Pass on the whipped cream! The whipped cream can add an extra 80-100 calories (depending on the size of your drink!) I will give you tips on how to replace the void, don’t worry!
- Replace whipped cream with cold foam. Oatmilk cold foam is my favorite, but you can go with regular milk cold foam for even less calories!
- Add sugar-free syrups. Starbucks has a few different SF syrup options like mocha, vanilla, caramel, and cinnamon dolce. They add sweetness and flavor and you can ask for however many pumps you want.
- Choose a lower calorie milk option! Whole milk and 2% milk have over 260+ calories in the grande but coconut milk and nonfat milk have 180 calories per 16 oz. (P.S. almond milk has only 130 calories in 16 oz!)
The Drinks & How To Order Them
Cold Brew with Cold Foam
This iced coffee features the cold foam I was talking about! If you typically order a grande, this drink with regular cold foam is only 35 calories! You can ask your barista for a grande cold brew with cold foam (and 1 pump of SF syrup of your choice for extra sweetness and flavor!). Personally this is my favorite drink, I sometimes just add a pump of hazelnut or Irish sweet cream!
Caramel Macchiato with Almond Milk
Let me start by saying that the classic caramel macchiato (grande, with 2% milk and 3 pumps of vanilla syrup and caramel sauce) is 250 calories. To reduce the calories, swap the 2% milk with almond milk and the syrup/ sauce with SF vanilla and SF caramel syrup. With these modifications, the grande caramel macchiato with almond milk would be down to 170 calories! This works for hot or iced.
Skinny Mocha
A classic favorite! An unmodified grande mocha from Starbucks is 260 calories. Here’s how to bring that down to 120 calories! The “skinny” refers to sugar-free mocha syrup so you can ask your barista for a grande skinny mocha with nonfat milk (hot or iced- up to you!)
Bonus Coffee Order!
Here is one last healthier coffee order you can try! This is a fun one…it’s an iced vanilla bean coconut milk latte. Coconut milk is so delicious! It’s a little sweet, but not overpowering. I prefer it over soy by a long shot! This drink is only 140 calories in a grande and is super tasty! Made with coconut milk and vanilla bean powder (you can substitute SF vanilla syrup to save 10 calories from the powder.)
