Should you buy the Urban Decay Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette?
One of my favorite beauty buys are eyeshadow palettes! I cannot get my hands on enough of them… Reason being, the palettes always come with complementary colors, and you get so much more for your money! I hate thinking about what color goes with which, and the idea of having the matching set all in front of me is insanely appealing.
I am very much a neutrals lover when it comes to my eyeshadow (if you will), and naturally gravitate to eye shadow palettes that have more browns, pinks, beiges, and purples. With that said, an eyeshadow palette almost always has a color or two that I generally wouldn’t buy as a single shadow, and end up loving. It forces me to get out of my comfort bubble, and also helps me create new looks.
I purchased the Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette (HERE) about 3 years ago, back when I was living in NYC. I was always so hesitant to spend $54 on the Urban Decay Palette’s, but after I bought this was, I totally understood the splurge appeal! If you’re looking for a fantastic neutral palette, Urban Decay just gets it.
Packaging
The Naked Palette’s are beautiful. They’re all rectangular… long and thin.
The shadows are homed in a plastic Rose Gold color tin with Gold text… I found it difficult to open, but once after a short period of time it seemed to be easier (maybe I’m just used to it now?).
The Urban Decay Naked Palette collection includes an incredible double headed brush. Honestly, this is one of the best features for me! Urban Decay brushes are great quality. They are soft, and light weight, and perfect for the product at hand. There is a circular brush head and a flat brush head, giving you the perfect tool for a complete look. There is definitely a reason why the Naked palette collection are some of the industry’s best sellers. You get so much for your money with this palette.
Shadow Colors:
There are 12 shadows inside:
- Strange (a pale neutral pink matte-satin)
- Dust (a light metallic pink shimmer with iridescent micro-glitter – great for inner eye and under brows)
- Burnout (a soft pinky-peach satin)
- Limit (a light dusty rose matte)
- Buzz (a metallic rose shimmer with silver micro-glitter)
- Trick (a light metallic pinky-copper shimmer with tonal micro-sparkle)
- Nooner (a medium pinky-brown matte)
- Liar (a medium metallic mauve shimmer)
- Factory (a pinky-brown satin)
- Mugshot (a metallic taupe shimmer with slight pink shift)
- Darkside (a deep taupe-mauve satin)
- Blackheart (a smoky black matte with rosy red micro-sparkle – fantastic for a dramatic look/liner)
Initially, I used this as a daytime palette, but as time passed I found myself using the smokey colors (Darkside and Blackheart) to create a nighttime look. The Naked3 Palette is super versatile and the packaging is so true to the Urban Decay brand. It just “fits” (and those of you fellow UD fans, know exactly what I’m talking about!).
Makeup Application Tips
Before starting with eye shadow, always use on a lid primer! Honestly, I’ve used expensive primers and some inexpensive, and my favorite is just the Maybelline Concealer Stick (so easy and cheap). Definitely do NOT skip this step, or your shadow will 100% clump in the crease (yuck!). This way the shadow lasts all day. I just use my finger to run the Maybelline Concealer Stick across my eye lids.
Once you’ve primed your lids, start with a neutral base color all over. With the Naked3 Eyeshadow Palette (HERE), I start with Strange. Take the flat sided head of the brush and sweep it from the corner of your eye lid to the outside. One of my favorite things is how pigmented this shadow is! It really is so true to color, you can just swipe once and that’s all you need. It’s hard to find this with eye shadow palette’s.
Once Strange is in place, use Limit with the round brush head. Apply Limit in the crease. Blend well into the crease by moving the brush in a circular motion. Follow this with Nooner, to give it a little bit more depth. After you feel like you’ve blended enough, wipe the brush off on both sides (just on a tissue is totally fine). My absolute favorite color in this palette is Trick, which is a gorgeous shimmery gold/copper. I’m obsessed! I may have to do an all over lid look with this one! Next, pat Trick gently where the crease meets the lid.
Next, use the darker shadows as eye liner. I took Blackheart (the darkest color) and put it on my Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Liner Brush (HERE), and swipe it from my outer upper lash line to the center of my eye. Using the Urban Decay flat brush head included in the Naked3 Palette, is perfectly fine, as well. It’s not necessary to drag the liner all the way across. I find that to be too drastic for a daytime look. Repeat on the other eye. Wipe off the brush and grab the color Nooner, for the bottom lower lash line. You’ll start to see some depth with this technique, which will make your eyes pop!
Lastly, take Dust and swipe it under your brow and into the corner of the inner eyes. Just gives it a nice shimmer and completes the look. Don’t miss this step guys! It’s not difficult, takes 2 seconds, you can us a brush or your finger, and it really adds a POP to your makeup look.
Then just add your favorite Mascara and you’re done!
Wear
The product is soft, smooth, and long lasting. It literally lasts me all day.
{Don’t forget to prime, it will kill the look if you don’t.}
