Hi Guys!
Today I created a tutorial video (HERE) on how to do a super easy messy half up bun. Lately, the half up half down bun style has been my go to look! It is super cute with curled hair and straight hair alike. I also love it for day two or three hair, with some dry shampoo (my favorites are THIS one and THIS one). Basically, you should try this style, because it is perfect day in and day out!
How to Get My Easy Messy Half Bun Look
- Start off with your hair down. In this look, I waved my hair first, but wearing it straight is great, as well.
- With your fingers, grab the top section of your hair near the temples.
- I like my half up look with hair over my ears but if you prefer hair behind your ears, feel free to do so. It’s totally up to you!
- You just want to be sure to have enough hair to create a semi thick half bun.
- Twist your hair and create a half knot it on the top, taking the longest part of your hair and looping it under the shortest part.
- Secure with an elastic
- I personally just use a Scunci black elastic (HERE), but if you prefer a clear elastic, that’s fine too.
- I honestly never use clear elastics, because I always feel like they rip my hair out. But if this is your preference, totally fine.

- Move the bun around until it looks the best to you
- For bun placement, I prefer them a bit lower behind my head, versus super on top of my head. You can do this however you prefer!
This cute simple look has been my go to lately. One of my girlfriends called it a “fun bun”, which I loved and have adopted. This hair style also keeps my hair out of my face at work, but it still looks super cute and fashionable.
So that’s it! It’s as easy as that to make the perfect easy messy half bun.
